Ensuring Your Baby’s Safety
Currently, there are no safety standards for the manufacturing of soft infant carriers, although they are expected to be released very soon. Safe use is important when utilizing any kind of ‘baby gear’ from cribs and car seats, to toys and slings.
I am committed to ensuring you understand how to properly and safely use any product purchased from me, which is why I offer complimentary product support to all of my clients.
My basic safety recommendations:
- Follow all manufacturer instructions, safety warnings, and recommendations.
- Always wear baby facing you – whether you are wearing baby on your chest, hip, or back.
- Consult a professional for information on carrying a baby that weighs less than 8 lbs. Small babies need to be closely monitored (in car seats, strollers, cribs, as well as in slings) to ensure they have good airflow.
- Avoid ‘cradle carries’ unless actively watching your child in the sling (such as when nursing). A tummy-to-tummy position is safest, easiest to learn, and avoids positioning baby in the dangerous chin-to-chest position that can constrict an infant’s airways.

Sling Savvy does NOT endorse the use of ‘bag-style’ or ‘purse-style’ slings!

Regardless of what type of infant carrier you decide to use, ensure it is safe and is being used in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions. Search for product recalls and warnings at the following URL:
